Becky and Gwilliam have been together for over 40 years and they bought Gorsddu (meaning black bog) over 20 years ago, which is a 16th century listed farmhouse.  The farmhouse was inhabitable at point of purchase, so they lived in a caravan on the site for seven years whilst they turned it into their home.

Prior to this, they lived a simple travelling lifestyle before moving on to buying and selling small houses in the Bristol area in need of renovation.  Gorsddu has been, without doubt, their biggest challenge.

It was 12 years ago that they started offering wild camping to people hiking on the mountain, and it has grown from here.  Becky soon realised that people were looking for somewhere they could reconnect with nature and the River Camp has grown to what it is today with the strong focus on rewilding and sustainability.

Not long after moving into Gorsddu, Becky and Gwilliam planted over 6,000 trees and with the help from WWOF volunteers.  The work is now continuing with a 5-acre field being planted up to join the old woodland.  Thanks to Becky’s love of wildflowers, there are now over 100 species at Gorsddu.

Gav joined The Wildman Woods, initially as a camper and then as a volunteer, but is now a fully-fledged member of the team.  He has built all of the paths and bridges across the River Camp.

Warren joined just over 6 months ago and is a true bushcraft fanatic and will be offering his services over the season.
