About Us

Gorsddu - meaning Black Bog - is a 16th Century listed farmhouse surrounded by acres of wild Welsh landscape lovingly restored by Becky and Gwilliam since the early 2000’s. It has taken many years to renovate the once derelict property as well as planting over 6,000 trees, restoring bogs, creating ponds, and rewilding flower meadows with the help from WWOOF volunteers.

In the early days, it was common to meet walkers who would wild camp on their journey through this rugged area. They would often stop to chat, refill their water from the spring, and sometimes ask permission to pitch a tent by the river.

Becky realised that people were seeking somewhere to reconnect with nature in this magical place, and so evolved The Wildman Woods, with a strong focus on sustainability, rewilding and conservation.

Volunteers are welcome to contact us to find out about our current projects. Some of our volunteers over the years have extended their stays to become part of the Wildman team, restoring paths, building bridges, creating new structures such as compost toilets, and offering activities such as bushcraft and archery.

This area is steeped in history and mystery, and it is easy to understand how the legend of The Lady of Llyn y Fan Fach and the Physicians of Myddfai alongside tales from The Mabinogion and Caerfyrddin - Merlin’s Fort - have captivated this place for thousands of years.
